When you sit in a chair for a living, you need a good one: one with lots of ergonomic features and adjustment controls to help reduce the long-term impact on your body. We scoured our own office chair catalog to pick out the chair that we would choose to furnish our entire E-Commerce Department. It had to be highly adjustable to fit a wide range of users, comfortable enough to stand up to 8-hour workdays, and yes, affordable. While a $900+ custom Neutral Posture chair might be the cream of the crop for a personal order, we were looking at a bulk purchase that would need to serve a variable group of personnel for a good while.

Nobody offers as many adjustment features for the price as RFM Seating, a hardworking off-brand name with all the quality of construction and thoughtfulness of design that you would expect of the pricier brands. The Echelon is no exception, offering a forward and backward seat slider for different leg lengths, forward and back seat tilt for different computer tasks, and back tilt that can be locked at any angle or unlocked for rocking--all in the base model. The height adjustable armrests, also standard, were actually one our top user requests. As simple as it may seem, the problem of fixed chair arms running into the edge of the desk is surprisingly common.

We opted for the high back managers chair model to accommodate taller users and provide a more formal look that would easily transfer from cubicle to conference room. The nice thing about mesh chairs is that their modern, technical styling looks equally appropriate in the executive office or home office. The Echelon combines a black mesh back with built-in lumbar support and a quality foam seat with a great range of fabric choices. We swooned over the complimentary tractor seat shaping, which is usually a special order feature. This is the kind of ergonomic device that makes all the difference to the long-distance sitter. Overall, we're very happy with what we got for what we paid.
