Over the years I've developed multiple less-than-perfect ways to keep books accessible and open, often having to fight off the felines who want to recline on whatever I'm needing to read. I have used my Book Holder now for over a month. I do Desktop Publishing and handle a lot of papers next to my 24" monitor. I love the swing arm with multiple positions. The 2 wire brackets to hold open a large book actually work (held open a large computer manual). The weakness is the bottom ledge where the paper rests on only has 4 small plastic stubs sticking out. It should be a solid piece of plastic along the bottom to hold papers. I cut a 1.25" x 17" x 1/4" piece of wood and layed it on the 4 stubs (bolting it onto the back stand). Took some thought but it solved their one shortcoming with the stand. Other than that it is a super stand, heavy duty and worth the price. Won't breakdown.

This book holder is used to type passages from books onto a computer. It works better than expected, moves out of the way easily when not needed, and frees the hands for typing and mouse adjustments. The reading angle adjusts readily for best lighting. It does need a small wood block under the free edge to keep it level.

Before finding this stand, I'd spent a couple of moths trying others and even designing and building my own. Needless to say, this one has replaced all that.

It's reasonably compact and extremely sturdy, capable of holding large, cumbersome books securely open. The spring page-restraint system is adjustable and elegant and stays out of the way, while the combination of well-thought-out joints allows for a wide variety of precise positioning and angles. The book stays where you put it, with no "drift" or wobble.

At the present time, I'm using it to hold large software manuals while I work at the computer, but it would be equally suited for reading large art books (coffee-table types) or even cookbooks in a kitchen environment--anywhere where you need hands-free access to a big book.
